Piebalgas Makes Championship Game!

Piebalgas Lauvas Win in Game 7!!!


Piebalgas Lauvas completed an epic comeback in their 7 game series with the Kalifornijas Heat. They were down 3-1 after 4 games in the series and many people did not think they could come back and win. Only Lauvas players knew they had the character to mount a come back. They took it 1 game at a time. They won game 5 by a huge score of 5-1 and made a statement that they would not be going away in this series. Martins Gailums had 2 goals in the game and Lasse Lamella had 1 goal and 1 assist and goalie Margers Ziedins made 20 saves for the win. Esa Hulkonen had 1 assist and 3 hits! Then it was time for game 6, another win or die situation for Piebalgas. This time they won 4-1 to force a game 7! Ziedins played great making 34 saves and Tonijs Montana had 1 goal and 1 assist. Esa Hulkonen also had a huge game with career high 8 hits! Time for game 7 and Piebalgas had the Heat on the ropes, but this game as much closer. Piebalgas had great performances from Frank Hellmandio and Tonijs Montana, both with 2 points and they came away with a 6-3 victory! Lauvas had completed the impossible task for coming back after being down 3-1 in the series to win it in 7 games! Media: Congrats on winning game 7! How does it feel?

Esa Hulkonen: Wooo! It feels great! I always knew this team could come back in the series and we never doubted ourselves. Our top players stepped up and our goalie played great. The Heat are a very good team but we were able to out work them in the final 3 games and came away with the victory. I am very happy and proud of my team.

Media: Tonijs Montana really stepped up his game in this series, what can you tell us about him?

Esa Hulkonen: Man, Tonijs is such a beast. He is a super skilled and has an incredible work ethic, I always knew he had greatness in him and he showed how clutch he is in this series. 4 points in the final 2 games and more in the series, he's truly become a superstar. I am happy to call him a teammate.

Media: How do you feel about how your goalie Ziedins played?

Esa Hulkonen: Zieds is awesome, the guy is so calm and cool under pressure it's amazing. We were facing elimination in game 5 and 6 and he only allowed 1 goal in each game. He gave us a chance to win and we owe him a lot. Without him I do not think we'd have won the series.

Media: How about your game, how do you think you played? We saw you throw 8 hits in 1 game!

Esa Hulkonen: Yes I tried to throw as many hits as possible, that is my game and I try and open up ice for my teammates and create loose pucks. I think I played well in the series and even had a couple assits, which was nice. I am looking forward to playing for the championship against Milzi.
